Resolved Question: What months can you ski in Gatlinburg, TN?

My wife and I are looking to go skiing for the first time, but we have to go and return no later January 3. Will it be cold enough then to make snow? When do the typical start of the ski season there? Also, how much should we plan to spend? We have no ski gear/attire (we would rent the gear if that's an option) and we will need lessons. And where is a good place to stay that is relatively close to everything, reasonably priced and still secluded enough with nice view to be romantic?
